The World Urban Regeneration Best Practice (WURBP) is an initiative of Shanghai University with support form the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). It aims to actively respond to global development initiatives, advance the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, and accelerate the localization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11). By addressing global crises and challenges, WURBP strives to contribute to a more sustainable urban future.
September 2025:A Global Spotlight on Urban Regeneration! After multiple rounds of selection, the best practices in urban and rural regeneration from cities around the world will be unveiled. These pioneering cases, recognized as leaders in the field, will be honored at a commendation ceremony held alongside the 80th United Nations General Assembly.

In November 2024, the First Cycle of World Urban Regeneration Best Practices (WURBP1) officially launched at the twelfth session of the World Urban Forum, the most influential event in the field of global habitat.
The launch ceremony was witnessed by representatives from the China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Shanghai Municipal Government, UN-Habitat ,as well as experts and scholars from around the world.
